EHRscribe Assures Full Compliance with HITECH

EHRscribe, Inc., a Pittsburgh, PA-based medical transcription service, has always valued the privacy of the personal health information entrusted to it by its clients. To that end, the company acted quickly when President Obama passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH) in February 2009, now bringing Business Associates such as ourselves under the Covered Entities umbrella of the privacy and security regulations.

Spearheaded by its Privacy Officer, EHRscribe has taken a very proactive approach with its medical transcription customers in addressing the specifics outlined by HITECH. Through a formal risk assessment process, EHRscribe has reviewed all of its internal privacy and security policies and procedures to assure full compliance. EHRscribe continually conducts inservice programs to educate its staff about the new regulations.

EHRscribe is pleased to have developed a fully secure web portal that can be used by all of its clients from which they can download, edit, and e-sign their reports. The reports are retained on the system for one full year. EHRscribe is currently meeting with each of its medical transcription clients to develop a customized document delivery solution that is compliant with HITECH. For those clients who still want to have their reports faxed to them, EHRscribe offers a continuously updated fax number data base.
